What We Do
The Washington County Agricultural Fair is one of the oldest agricultural fairs in the United States and the oldest fair in Pennsylvania, dating back to 1798. Held annually in Washington, Pennsylvania, the fair celebrates the region’s rich agricultural heritage while providing entertainment, education, and community engagement for residents and visitors of all ages.
The fair’s primary purpose is to promote and support agriculture, horticulture, livestock, homemaking, arts, sciences, and youth agricultural programs such as 4-H and Future Farmers of America (FFA). It serves as a platform where local farmers, businesses, and community organizations can showcase their work, products, and talents while helping preserve the traditions of rural life in Washington County.
Each year, the Washington County Agricultural Fair features thousands of livestock and agricultural exhibits, educational demonstrations, competitions, market livestock sales, tractor pulls, baking contests, live music, carnival rides, food vendors, petting zoos, demolition derbies, and family-friendly entertainment. The event also highlights the economic importance of agriculture in the region and creates opportunities for community connection and tourism.
In addition to entertainment, the fair plays an important educational role by teaching fairgoers about farming, animal care, food production, and local industry. Through exhibits and hands-on experiences, the fair helps younger generations understand and appreciate the importance of agriculture in everyday life.
Today, the Washington County Agricultural Fair continues to honor its historic roots while evolving into a major regional event that blends tradition, education, and entertainment for the entire community.
