Who We Are

A Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) is a community member who receives 30+ hours of training on children, families and the child welfare system. The CASA is assigned by a Juvenile Court Judge to advocate in the best interests of a child who has experienced abuse or neglect and who involved in the Dependency court system through no fault of their own. This volunteer works with only one child or one sibling group that the court has assigned to them at a time. They visit regularly with the child and gather pertinent information on their care. They look at medical, educational and system records to ensure any recommended services are put in place for the child. They provide a written report to the court about that child's progress and needs and help ensure that the child welfare system is focused on that child. CASA for Kids oversees this volunteer program in Washington County and in Fayette County, providing National CASA/GAL approved training, screening and support for volunteers serving children in this important role.

What We Do

CASA for Kids recruits, screens, trains and supports community volunteers to serve as best interest advocates to a Washington County PA child or young person who has experienced abuse or neglect. Our next training class beings on 9/10/2025. Interested applicants can access a volunteer application on our website at the "volunteer today" red tab at the bottom of the home page or can call the CASA office for details about the training. We have a waiting list of over 15 children who need an advocate and need more individuals to serve in this important role.
