CASA for Kids is seeking community volunteers to serve as volunteer advocates for a child who has experienced abuse or neglect in Washington County. Our next Volunteer class begins on September 9th. Trainings are once a week for 8 weeks prior to being assigned by the Judge to a case of a child who is involved in the child welfare system through no fault of their own.
CASA advocates must:
- Be 21 years or older
- Pass All background screenings.
- Participate in the National CASA research-informed pre-service curriculum
- Commit to advocating on a case for at least 18 months
A CASA advocate will:
- visit with the child at least monthly
- gather information about the child
- provide recommendations to the court regarding the child's placement and needed services
- work with child welfare professionals on the child's behalf to ensure the child's best interests are served
